Yesterday, alongside the new Nexus 7 tablet, Google announced Chromecast ? a small dongle that allows you to stream content to your TV from your Android or iOS device. Chromecast can essentially turn your TV into a smart TV in terms of functionality, even if it lacks TV specific applications. That said, those of you who own a Google TV television or set-top box need not worry that your device has been one-upped, as Chromecast support is said to be coming to Google?s television service in the future.
Exactly how Google TV and Chromecast will intertwine isn?t quite clear, but it?s likely the most simple of guesses, in that GTV will simply support the dongle for content ?casting?. Some Google TV boxes ship with a media server application, allowing you to stream content from your computer via DLNA, so the idea of Chromecast might seem a little redundant. Still, we?re definitely glad to see that Google hasn?t completely abandoned it?s TV service, especially when we were expecting a (worth while) announcement during Google I/O earlier this year.

Stanford University has warned network users of a potential security breach and urged them to change their passwords.
TechCrunch reports the university sent an email to the entire Stanford community saying the school does not yet know the scope of the intrusion.
The email said that Stanford was investigating a beach similar to incidents reported recently by large companies and organizations in the U.S.

Facebook's temporary block on a link to Kirk Cameron's new movie website was down to a mistake in their anti-spam systems, the social networking site has explained.
Cameron, best known for his lead role in Fireproof, posted a link to his new film, Unstoppable, on his Facebook page last week. ?
However, he later posted to his 653,000 fans that Facebook had blocked the link. ?
"Facebook has officially 'blocked' me and you (and everyone else) from posting any link to my new movie at UnstoppableTheMovieDOTcom, labeling the content as 'abusive', 'unsafe', and 'spammy'," he wrote.
"This is my most personal film about faith, hope and love, and about why God allows bad things to happen to good people.
"What is 'abusive' or 'unsafe' about that?! ?Please help us encourage Facebook to unblock our website soon by sharing this post with your friends so more people can see this transparent, faith-building project."?
Last Friday, Cameron updated fans telling them that the block had been lifted. ?
"Because of your firm, loving, and clear voice, not only did Facebook welcome us back, YouTube also removed its block on our Unstoppable movie trailer. We are back online with full access," posted Cameron.
"Now let's make sure NOTHING stops UNSTOPPABLE from coming to a theater in your town on Sept. 24th. Buy your tickets today. If we sell out all the seats in your neighborhood theater, NOTHING can stop it from playing there."
Explaining the block on the link, Facebook communications manager Michael Kirkland told The Christian Post that it had been mistakenly identified as a spamming site by its "automated" anti-spam systems.
"From what we can tell, the address purchased for the movie was previously being used as a spam site and it hadn't been refreshed in our system yet," said Kirkland.
"We were in direct contact with Kirk's team on this and reversed the block as soon as we confirmed that the address was no longer being used for spam."
He added: "These [anti-spam] systems are so effective that most people who use Facebook will never encounter spam. They're not perfect, though, and in rare instances they make mistakes.
"This link was blocked for a very short period of time after being misidentified as a potential spam or malware site. We learn from rare cases such as these to make our systems even better."

Eight years after their first research partnership, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Rolls-Royce are taking their research alliance to greater heights with a new multi-million dollar collaboration.
The centrepiece is the Rolls-Royce@NTU Corporate Lab, which was launched today at a joint investment of S$75 million by NTU, Rolls-Royce and the National Research Foundation, Prime Minister's Office, Singapore.
This unique research tie-up will kick start 32 new projects over the next five years, tripling the existing number of projects between Rolls-Royce and NTU.
The Rolls-Royce@NTU Corporate Lab is the first of its kind in the world with a university, focusing on three core research areas Electrical Power and Control Systems, Manufacturing and Repair Technologies and Computational Engineering.
It is also the first lab to be supported under the National Research Foundation's newly launched Corp Lab @ University scheme.
Research in these fields are aimed at inventing more efficient and reliable energy delivery systems, developing innovative manufacturing technologies to complement more robust power systems, and extracting information from equipment and processes so that operators can make timely and informed business critical decisions.
NTU President Professor Bertil Andersson said this latest joint lab with Rolls-Royce is a milestone for NTU, although the two have been ramping up their alliance over the years since their first engagement in 2005.
"It is fantastic that NTU, the fastest-rising university in the world's top 50, is strengthening our partnership with Rolls-Royce, one of the world's leading power systems companies," says Prof Andersson.
"This lab will combine the strengths of both organisations NTU's cutting-edge research in engineering and science plus our world-class professors, students, and infrastructure, with the strong industrial capability of Rolls-Royce' leading engineering and services activities for civilian and military customers in over 80 countries."
The lab will work closely with the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) as well as the university's four engineering schools: the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering; the School of Materials Science and Engineering; the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering; and the School of Computer Engineering.
"Rolls-Royce has a long and proud history of delivering engineering excellence and innovation to support our expanding global customer base especially in the Asia Pacific region's aerospace, marine and energy markets," said Professor Ric Parker, Director of Research and Technology, Rolls-Royce.

The lab will have a team of more than 300 top-level talent comprising research staff and technical experts. This includes Rolls-Royce staff and NTU faculty, as well as the training of up to 70 researchers, 40 PhD and 25 Master's students, in addition to a number of NTU undergraduates.
NTU is no stranger to Rolls-Royce, having forged a close partnership with the leading global power systems company in the last 8 years, when research collaborations were initiated in the domains of power generation, power electronics and control systems.
In 2009, the Rolls-Royce Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) was set up at NTU, and which is now recognised as a key source of innovation within Rolls-Royce. The same year, NTU embarked on a five-year research partnership with Rolls-Royce to conduct research in the areas of manufacturing process technology and power electronics.
In September 2011, NTU launched the joint Master of Science degree programme in Project Management with the University of Manchester (UOM) along with Rolls-Royce, which aims at developing core competency skills in project management.
