Crocodoc Debuts HTML5 Document Embedding Technology; Partners With Dropbox, Yammer, SAP

Y Combinator alum Crocodoc is debuting a new technology today that aims to bring an enterprise-grade HTML5 document embedding service for Microsoft Office and PDF files, to web-based products. Crocodoc launched in 2010 to kill off Acrobat. The startup's initial Flash-based technology allowed you to upload a PDF, and receive a version of the same document in your browser, which you can then share with coworkers and annotate with notes, highlighting, text, and a pen tool, with changes that show up to other users in real-time. Last year, Crocodoc launched this technology in HTML5 for mobile embedding.

Consumer Electronics Daily News: CEA Names Industry Leaders to ...

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA^?) today announced the 2012 class of inductees into the Consumer Electronics (CE) Hall of Fame. The CE Hall of Fame, created in 2000, honors the leaders in the consumer technology industry who have shaped and advanced innovation.

The inductees this year include company founders and inventors, those who fervently promote technology, gifted marketers and the retailers that educate and deliver products to consumers. They all share a passion for innovation. The 2012 class of inductees was selected on February 22, 2012, in New York City by a panel of media and industry professionals, who judged the nominations submitted online by manufacturers, retailers and industry journalists.

?This elite group of leaders has laid the foundation that our industry continues to build upon,? said CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro. ?Their vision, drive to excel and enthusiasm have helped to create the innovative CE products and services that have improved the lives of consumers worldwide. It is a pleasure to recognize this prestigious group.?

The 12 new honorees will be inducted into the CE Hall of Fame during CEA?s Industry Forum to be held in San Francisco on October 14-17, 2012.?During the event, CEA will host an awards dinner to honor the 2012 CE Hall of Fame class on Tuesday, October 16 at the Westin St. Francis. The use of a dedicated pediatric imaging department (with dedicated pediatric computed tomography (CT) technologists) for pediatric CT scans significantly reduces the radiation dose delivered to the patient, according to a study in the May issue of the Journal of the American College of Radiology.

When performed and monitored properly, the benefits of CT scans outweigh the potential long-term risk of radiation. To minimize the potential adverse effects of radiation exposure to pediatric patients, it is necessary to reduce the dose of radiation delivered to these patients while preserving the diagnostic quality of the images produced.

"There are many strategies for reducing radiation dose. The use of protocols with adjusted exposure parameters for pediatric patients on the basis of child size, organ system scanned and the size of the region scanned is most notable. However, compliance with these protocols can be challenging for technologists, particularly when scanning a combination of adult and pediatric patients," said Heather L. Borders, MD, lead author of the study.

A retrospective review of abdominal and pelvic CT console dose and exposure parameter data on 495 patients from a combined pediatric and adult radiology department and subsequently 244 patients from a dedicated pediatric radiology department was performed. Patients were divided into 1 of 8 weight categories for analysis.

A statistically significant decrease in the estimated effective dose for abdominal and pelvic CT studies was observed in all but one of the weight categories at the pediatric radiology department compared with the pediatric and adult radiology department.

"Imaging pediatric patients in a dedicated pediatric imaging department with dedicated pediatric CT technologists may result in greater compliance with pediatric protocols and significantly reduced patient dose," said Borders.

"Conversely, greater scrutiny of compliance with pediatric dose-adjusted CT protocols may be necessary for departments that scan both children and adults," she said.
